LLA awards local community grants

London Luton Airport (LLA) has announced its first round of local community project grants for 2023, underlining its commitment to making a positive impact in its local communities.

A total of 16 local community projects will benefit from grants totalling almost £135,000.

Six local groups will share £45,000 of funding from LLA’s Community Trust Fund, which is managed by the Bedfordshire and Luton Community Foundation and supports applications from local schools, charities and community groups that focus on health and wellbeing, skills development and tackling poverty.

This year’s approved beneficiaries include Thriftvale Scouts Group in Cranfield & Marston Moretaine, Citizens Advice in St Albans and the Young People’s Puppet Theatre that works with schools across Luton.

London Luton Airport has awarded a further £90,000 of grants to 10 local projects from its new Greener Future Fund, partly funded through the airport’s existing Community Trust grant funding process, introduced to support biodiversity and tackle environmental issues through local education and innovation projects.

The chosen projects include the installation of a sensory garden at Maidenhall Primary School, the development of an outdoor learning space at Tennyson Road Primary School (pictured), a ‘greener garden’ project for the Bangladesh Youth League and investment in a new ‘community fridge’ for the Marsh Farm Futures charity to support the local community and help tackle food waste.

More than 11,000 people will benefit from this first round of funding, with more grants awarded later in the year.

Oli Jaycock, Director of Corporate Affairs at London Luton Airport, commented: “Supporting positive change in our local communities is a key part of London Luton Airport’s Responsible Business Strategy and we are delighted to announce the latest round of fantastic local projects to benefit from our grant giving programmes. As a responsible business, we recognise the important role we can play in shaping a sustainable future for local people and these projects have been chosen for the positive impact they will have on our local communities and the local environment.”
