LLA salutes International Women's Day

London Luton Airport (LLA) today celebrated International Women’s Day by supporting an all-female Wizz Air flight to Athens.

The flight to Athens departed at 8:48am local time on Wednesday morning and bought together over 20 women in roles from across the airport and airline, including check in and boarding staff, air traffic controllers, airside operations, security and guest experience teams, as well as pilots and cabin crew.

The flight was crewed by Captain Sanne Gibson and co-piloted by Senior First Officer Christina Carver. Observing the flight was Air Traffic Controller Angela Grimes. Cabin Manager Bianca Maria Saceanu was supported by four cabin crew; Eleanor Buxton, Maria Cucnato, Zoe Flynn, and Monica Salemi.

Joanna Reeve, Head of People Services, London Luton Airport said: “London Luton Airport is delighted to have supported Wizz Air on its all-female flight as part of International Women’s Day. From guest experience to security and airside operations, our female colleagues across the airport play a vital role in delivering a smooth and friendly passenger experience.  We are continually looking to develop career pathways that provide equal opportunity, encourage diversity and inspire more women to seek a career in aviation.”

Marion Geoffroy, Managing Director, Wizz Air UK said: “At Wizz Air, we are fully committed to gender equality and we are removing barriers for women seeking a career in aviation. We understand the importance of recruiting and retaining a gender balanced workforce, which is why we have launched a number of unique initiatives to nurture talent and diversity, and we are committed to increasing female representation on the flight deck as well as amongst our senior management and in the boardroom. We hope that today’s all-female flight initiative showcases the different careers available to women in aviation, inspiring the next generation that this is a career they can and should aspire to.”
