LLA prepares for a bumper Easter half-term

London Luton Airport (LLA) predicts almost 900,000 passengers are set to pass through the airport over the Easter half-term school holiday [1] with around 50,000 passengers taking off on Good Friday to make the most of the long weekend.

Easter remains an incredibly popular time for travellers to plan a getaway with friends or family according to LLA data, with short-haul jaunts and beach breaks a top choice for those seeking a change of scenery. European cities such as Barcelona, Budapest, Dublin, Lisbon, and Paris are among the trending destinations, with the balmy temperatures of Amman, Cairo, Marrakech, and Sharm El Sheikh also proving popular for longer vacations. The choice and frequency of flights available from LLA is also fuelling surging demand among ‘holi’dayers’ looking for hassle free 24-hour trips that make the most of time off from work.

Clare Armstrong, Head of Guest Experience at London Luton Airport, commented: “Easter is always a popular time for people to travel and this year is no exception. As we all know, the UK has had a bit of damp, grey start to the year and our predicted passenger numbers underline the strong demand for travel to sunnier climes or those seeking new experiences. Everyone at London Luton Airport is primed for what will be a very busy fortnight and our focus, as ever, is to provide a simple and friendly passenger experience for everyone passing through the airport.”

Thanks to a multi-million investment in the terminal experience, LLA offers an expansive choice of over 40 shops and restaurants to suit every taste and budget including sushi specialist Yo!, Italian diner Nolito and Black Sheep Coffee. Passengers can also visit the terminal’s most recent additions, premium gift store Discover London, and an eye-catching new LEGO store featuring a dedicated ‘build-a-mini-figure’ area – an airport first.

Travellers will also be able to enjoy a host of exclusive Easter offers [2] from participating shops and restaurants. Aelia Duty Free is offering up to 30% reductions on selected fragrances and chocolate, whilst free kid’s meals are available with every adult main course ordered at Nolito. The Smithfield, Yo! And Hawker Bar are offering free drinks for children with kid’s meals and exclusive breakfast bargains are also available from Black Sheep Coffee and Breakfast Box. The LLA Guest Experience team will also be handing out activity packs for families travelling with younger children.

As the busiest travel period of the year to date, LLA is advising passengers to arrive in plenty of time and to take advantage of the variety of transport options available including airport bus services and the Luton Airport Express, a dedicated rail service that enables passengers to travel from central London to the terminal in around 30 minutes. Short, mid and long-stay parking facilities are also available.

LLA’s bumper Easter getaway will bring a successful first quarter to a close, with the airport set to tip one million passengers for the third consecutive month. A slew of passenger enhancements are set to land this year including a second premium passenger lounge and several new restaurants including a spectacular mezzanine bar and diner.

Work is also progressing on the £20 million refurbishment of the security hall that will feature state-of-the art body scanners and CT scanner technology to enable faster processing times and an enhanced passenger experience.
