Three bank holiday weekends and the start of the summer half-term week contributed to a busy May for London Luton Airport (LLA), with over 1.5 million passengers passing through the airport.
The latest figures bring LLA’s year-to-date passenger total to almost 6.2 million – an increase of almost 45% on the same period last year.
Amsterdam, Dublin, Istanbul, Lisbon and Paris proved particularly popular with passengers jetting off for bank holiday weekend city breaks, whilst Greece, Portugal, Spain and Türkiye were among the busiest holiday destinations as the half-term getaway gathered pace towards the end of the month.
Passengers can also now choose from an even wider range of restaurants in the LLA departure lounge following the May opening of Australian inspired coffee house, Avalon, and pan-Asian noodle bar Chopstix that has chosen LLA for its first airport site.
LLA’s consistently strong operational performance in May resulted in four out of five passengers rating their passenger experience as either very good or excellent*.
Alberto Martin, CEO at London Luton Airport, commented: “May proved to be another busy and exciting month for London Luton Airport, with passenger numbers continuing to rise, new destinations appearing on our departure boards and two eye-catching new restaurants. Together with our simple and friendly passenger experience and improved rail connectivity with the newly launched Luton Airport Express, it’s clear LLA’s appeal continues to grow”.
